#24-029: Cook (Casual)

POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:

The Cook prepares and serves nutritious meals as outlined on menus in accordance with applicable food service and safety regulations.

BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Prepares meals including meals for special dietary needs of the residents
• Adapts work practices within specific parameters to ensure the efficient delivery of food services
• Makes use of and decides on best use of resources, including donations to minimize waste
• Follows guidelines for the safety and security of food and equipment and monitors practices to ensure adherence
• May perform some employee supervisory duties in the absence of the Food Services Manager and Kitchen Supervisor
• May supervises students, volunteers and / or residents in work therapy
• May order food supplies
• Maintain a high level of cleanliness at all times within the kitchen and storage areas.
• Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Willingness to adhere to the Mission Statement of Harbour Light and the values of The Salvation Army
• One to three years cooking experience with at least one year in Institutional Cooking
• Must be fluent in English, both orally and written
• Has the ability to stand for extended periods of time
• Is knowledgeable about food preparation and is familiar with kitchen equipment
• Current and up to date WHIMS, First Aid Level I, Food Safe Level I
• Must be able to work variety of shifts including 5 AM

MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL ATTAINED:

• High School diploma, plus specialized courses of up to six (6) months.

HOURS: On Call, varied.

Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:

• Background check consent.
• A clear vulnerable sector screening.
• A clean drivers abstract.
• Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
• Proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (2 doses) The requirement to be fully vaccinated is subject to provincial/territorial human rights legislation. If the candidate is unable to vaccinate for a reason protected by the Human Rights Code, a request for accommodation can be submitted and written proof satisfactory to TSA will be required.
