Job Description

We are offering a long term contract employment opportunity for a Finance Governance Manager in Toronto. In this role, you will be leading a team of analysts and supporting research operations with Governance, financial reporting and audits. You will also be expected to identify gaps in processes and leverage technology to reduce manual work.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage a team of 5 analysts, ensuring efficient workflow
  • Support research operations by conducting audits with granting agencies and providing internal financial reporting
  • Identify process gaps and implement strategies to leverage technology and reduce manual work
  • Key enabler ensuring appropriate governance structures are developed and in place for the lines of business within Research including grants, research institutes, cores, support services and commercial activities
  • Design and implement compliance and audit procedures with minimal supervision
  • Draft and develop new operational policies and communication plans for implementation
  • Develop and maintain policies and practice guidelines, and to enhance financial controls, monitor compliance with internal policies and accounting standards, assess and report risk
  • Manage and improve the team's performance, promoting a proactive approach to tasks
  • Interact with all levels of staff within the organization, fostering strong interpersonal relationships
  • Ensure compliance functions and governance are maintained and improved as necessary.
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in a finance management role or similar
  • Completion of a recognized accounting designation (CPA, CA or equivalent) .Minimum of 5 years of related experience in compliance or audit, experience in not-for-profit would be an advantage
  • Experience in conducting audits and implementing audit recommendations
  • Strong understanding of operating policies and operational controls
  • Knowledge of governance practices and principles in finance
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, including advanced features and functions
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Proven ability to make sound financial decisions based on data analysis
  • Strategic thinker with strong problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
